“Learning is fun! Keep your passion for music alive and never
be shy to apply your skills.” These are the words from Mr. Angelo Escaño, the
bass instrument mentor. HIMIG - Musicians of Adamson University conducted Musicalino (Instrument Tutorials) last
September 12, 19 and 26, 2012 at CS 4th floor rooms.
The tutorials started around 3pm, it’s just like an ordinary
class except the mentors doesn’t have master’s degree and some mentors are
students also but professional in their instrument. All mentors have chosen to
start back to zero meaning the fundamentals of music, the pitch, scales and
modes, rhythm, consonance and dissonance, chord, melody and etc. The mentors
for basic guitar lessons was Carlo Aquino, for advance guitar lessons it was
Nichole De Andres, HIMIG’s Sports Director, for bass tutorials, Angelo Escaño,
for drums, Lyndon Hamor and Jether Urie Cargullo, and for piano, Marvin Nañasca
and Van Shafer were the one in – charge.
The first day was a blast although the advance guitar started
late and only has 2 students enrolled. Many aspiring musicians learned new
lessons and they left the venue with their new skills in playing musical
instruments.
Second day and the third day was more on application of what
was discussed on the first day of tutorials, the mentors are just watching
their students to guide them.
Unfortunately, we didn’t provide any drum sets ‘coz it might
cause annoying noise and there are offices and faculty rooms nearby the area
but the students of drum tutorials enjoyed the way they practiced.
Musicalino was
a success according to Julius Ray N. Gumba, the president of HIMIG, saw the
effort and passion of new members who participated in the event, he is looking
forward for the most improved member to give him/her proper recognition.
